Disclaimer and General Site Information.
Due to technology, the fire
sprinkler industry is one that is constantly evolving. It is imperative to note that the
information on this site may become obsolete, literally overnight. Any information
contained on this site was reviewed for accuracy at the time of
its original publication. We encourage website visitors to further research any
concerns and contact us via e-mail (or other means) with specific
questions. The various sites
that are linked
on our resources page offer additional, and
often more
specific, design and industry information. As stated throughout the NFPA
standards, and the ICC (former BOCA) building codes, fire suppression information
and design concepts are only to be used by those experienced, and familiar,
with the industry.
Your Help :
To all website visitors, we appreciate your taking the time to visit us and ask that
you report any broken links to us. Thank you.
Recalls: There is an understandable amount of concern
regarding the recall of fire sprinkler heads that use rubber o-rings to seal
the waterway. UL has announced that they will no longer allow rubber
o-rings as a sealing method. Please look to the page
http://www.sprinklerreplacement.com/VRP/enterVRP.php3
for information on Central Sprinkler's recalled products. In addition the
Tyco site at http://www.tyco-central.com/ may have additional
information on other Tyco subsidiaries, including the Star and Gem line of
products. The UL site is linked on our resources page. Other
brands that have used o-rings in the past have, or will be, issuing their
own findings. The main, and original, competition to a rubber o-ring
seal is the patented Belleville washer and whenever possible, we intend to provide and install
products that use this method to seal the waterway.
Permit Plans. We
are often asked if we can provide fire sprinkler design documents and
calculations for submittal and/or permitting immediately. The short answer is yes, provided that we have been issued or received
the following items and information:
=>A Contract or Letter of Intent. This is
required to establish a scope of our
participation and agreeable schedule. It also establishes the value of
our services and insurance requirements.
=>Civil design documents, NFPA Standard 13 requires that
the fire sprinkler submittal documents contain a site plan drawn to
scale, with adjacent fire hydrants and water supply information included.
Therefore the civil documents are required to prepare a fire protection site drawing.
=>Structural design
documents,
generally, all cross mains are located within 3" of a structural member,
and parallel to it. The type and depth of the structural members
dictates the elevation of our fire sprinkler piping, as well as other MEP
trades. We must have these design documents to locate those bulk and cross mains and to establish the
direction of our branch line piping.
=>Architectural documents, we
require the interior wall locations and any finished ceiling plans to
complete our submittal documents and locate the fire sprinkler heads.
This is stated in both the NFPA standard and BOCA building codes.
=>Lighting documents, the lighting layout(s) are
required to space fire sprinkler heads in finished ceiling areas, and in warehouse
areas if we
are to
install large drop or ESFR fire sprinkler heads.
=>Water supply information,
generally, all hydraulic
calculations are to be measured against a current water supply test (12
months old or less) and in some districts the fire marshal must witness the
flow test.
=>Storage arrangement and commodity, to design the fire
sprinkler system(s) to meet the code requirements we must know the commodity to be stored, how
high it will be stored, how it will be stored (rack or solid piles...) and
if it will be covered on top of the load with plastic.

FIRE SPRINKLERS, INC. is proud to be
signatory with the UA Sprinkler Fitter Locals and employ craftsmen

Paul's family supported their representative from the

Staff Design
Professional
Since 1998 we have been one of the few fire
sprinkler contractors based in St. Louis that has an on-staff design
professional. Such an affiliation has allowed us to receive the Professional Engineering Corporation license from the
State of Missouri. Not all companies that have a staff
design professional have the license from the state. |
